About WebsiteOf
What it does
You type the name of a business, and WebsiteOf returns the web addresses most likely to be that business's own site, ranked from most to least likely. It is built for the common situation where you know a company's name, perhaps from an invoice, a directory listing, a signboard or a recommendation, but not where to find it online.
How to use it
- Enter the name as it is usually written. Suffixes such as "LLC", "Inc." or "Ltd." are fine to include or leave out.
- Add a city or state in the address field when the name is common or the business has several locations. "Main Street Auto" on its own could be hundreds of businesses; "Main Street Auto, Dayton OH" narrows it down.
- Check the top result first. It is marked "Best match". The other results are there for cases where a similarly named business, a parent company or a sister location ranks close by.
- Use the copy button to copy a web address, or the open button to visit it in a new tab.
Bulk lookup
Have a list? Upload a CSV file with a single column named business_name and up to 100 rows (a template is on the home page). WebsiteOf looks up every business and gives you a CSV back with up to three likely websites per business, best first. You can run up to five files a day.
How results are ranked
Results are ranked by how closely the web address matches the business name you entered, after removing common directory, social-media and marketplace sites that are never a business's own website. Up to three results are shown. The tool does not guess: if nothing matches well enough, it says so rather than showing an unrelated site.
What it is not
WebsiteOf is a finding aid, not a verification service. A high-ranked result is very likely the right site, but it is still a suggestion. Before relying on a result for anything important, such as sending payment details, open the site and confirm it belongs to the business you expect.
